FOUNDING SPONSORS

WHAT

The Lexington Rowing Community Club (#LexRowClub) is a nonprofit organization dedicated to opening the Kentucky River to a new generation, in a new way.

Rowing takes two forms: Sculling (two oars per rower) and Crew (one oar — or a “sweep” — per 4 to 8 rowers).

The club has two German training “gig” boats, procured through the kindness of the Louisville Rowing Club and our founding sponsors. Both are classic wooden boats — heavy, wide and stable! One is configured as a sculling “quad” (four rowers, each pulling two oars) and the other quad is configured for sweep rowing.

WHERE

#LexRowClub has secured waterfront access near the iconic Highbridge railroad crossing. That stretch of the river (between Lock #7 and Lock #8) offers more than 20 unobstructed miles of pristine rowing.

WHEN

Bi-weekly Saturday meetings (generally the 2nd and 4th of each month) begin at Drinklings Coffeehouse (100 Rice Street, Wilmore), 10 a.m. About 10:30 a.m. rowers carpool to the river for group workouts and related activities. Then there’s a bite at a Wilmore lunchtime favorite, Solomon’s Porch (111 East Main Street, Wilmore).

During “off” Saturdays (i.e., 1st, 3rd and 5th of each month), activities vary between information booths at the Lexington Farmer’s Market, regional regatta road trips, and more!
